Dr Ayman Swed (also Known as Dr. Ayman Rochdi Swed) is a renowned Syrian-born Quran reciter, scholar, and expert in the science of Tajweed. Born in 1955 in Syria, he grew up in a religious family devoted to the Quran, developing a deep attachment to its recitation and teachings from an early age. Over the years, he has become one of the most respected authorities in Quranic recitation and its rules worldwide.
Driven by his passion for knowledge, he moved to Egypt to pursue higher studies. He obtained High Readings certification from the Institute of Readings in Cairo in 1981, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language from the Faculty of Arabic at Al-Azhar University in 1982. His academic journey then took him to Saudi Arabia, where he earned a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Arabic at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah in 1990. His pursuit of excellence continued with two Ph.D. degrees, one from Umm Al-Qura University in 1998 and another from Al-Azhar University in 1999.
Throughout his studies, he was mentored by some of the most distinguished Quran scholars and reciters of his time, including Shaykh Muhi-Eddin Al-Kurdi, Shaykh Amer Othman, and Shaykh Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al-Zayat. Their guidance helped refine his mastery of the Quran and his deep understanding of its recitation sciences.
He has held numerous significant roles in the field of Quranic education. He has served as a consultant for the International Body of Quran Teaching, which operates under the Association of the Muslim World, and has worked with the Charity Association of Quran Teaching in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His contributions include supervising Quran learning programs, organizing recitation sessions, and training teachers to spread proper Quran recitation worldwide.
In addition to his teaching and academic roles, he is widely known for his popular television program “Mastering Quran Recitation” on the Iqraa Channel, which has inspired millions of viewers to improve their recitation. His approach to teaching combines scholarly precision with spiritual warmth, making him a beloved figure among students and Quran enthusiasts alike.
Respected across the Islamic world, Dr. Ayman Swed stands among the most influential Quran reciters and educators of our time. Alongside Abdul Hadi Kanakri, Ali Abdul Salam Al-Youssef, Maher Shakhashiro, Abdul Basit ‘Abd us-Samad, Muhammad Siddiq AL-Minshawi, Ahmed Mohammad Tahir, Afif Taj, Abdul Wali Al Arkani, and Muhammad Hassan, he continues to represent the harmony of devotion, mastery, and faith through his recitation.
Today, he resides in Saudi Arabia, where he continues to teach, guide, and inspire the next generation of Quran reciters.
