Dawood Hamza is one of the most respected Quran reciters from Libya, known for his heartfelt voice and deep mastery of Tajweed. He was born on November 1, 1968, in Tripoli. His journey into the world of Quranic recitation began unexpectedly at the age of ten, when his father gifted him a recording of the legendary reciter Abdul Basit Abdul Samad. Captivated by the beauty of the voice, he became determined to learn Tajweed and recite the Quran with excellence. To pursue this passion, He enrolled in a Quranic school in his village. There, he became familiar with famous reciters like Muhammad Sadiq Al-Minshawy and began developing his own style. Encouraged by his teachers, he memorized the entire Quran by the age of twenty and mastered the rules of recitation. His talent quickly gained recognition, and he became a well-known reciter across Libya. At just 22 years old, he began teaching the Quran to students, many of whom later became accomplished reciters themselves. His skills also took him abroad, where he served as an Imam for Taraweeh prayers in Canada for over 10 years. Throughout his career, He has represented the art of Quran recitation globally, participating in Quranic forums, competitions, and events in countries like Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, South Africa, Czechoslovakia, and Algeria. He is passionate about preserving different styles of recitation and hopes to release his first full Quranic recording in the Moroccan style, which follows the Andalusian tradition. Today, He continues to inspire Muslims worldwide through his unique voice, dedication to Tajweed, and commitment to spreading Quranic knowledge.
