Maher Al Mueaqly is one of the most respected and well-known Quran reciters and Imams in the Muslim world today. His full name is Maher Ibn Hamd Ibn Mueaql Al Mueaqly Al Baloui. He was born in 1969 in the blessed city of Madinah, Saudi Arabia, where he grew up surrounded by the spiritual legacy of the Prophet ﷺ. Before dedicating himself fully to Quranic service and Islamic knowledge, he excelled academically in the field of Mathematics and began his career as an educator in Makkah. He served at Balat Al-Shohada’ School and later worked as a student advisor at Prince Abdul Majid School in Makkah, a role that highlighted his leadership qualities and dedication to youth development.
Alongside his work in education, he continued his pursuit of Islamic scholarship. He earned a Master’s degree in Hanbali jurisprudence from Umm Al-Qura University in 1425 AH, and later achieved his Doctorate in Shafi’i jurisprudence in 2012 from the same institution. His research and advanced study reflect his profound commitment not only to Quranic recitation but also to Islamic legal sciences. He went on to serve as an assistant professor in the Department of Judicial Studies at Umm Al-Qura University, contributing to higher education and scholarly development.
His journey as a reciter gained prominence when he led prayers at various mosques in Makkah and Madinah. In 2006 and 2007, he was appointed to lead prayers in Masjid Al-Nabawi, a great honor for any Imam. In 2007, he received the historic and distinguished appointment as a permanent Imam of Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah, the holiest mosque in Islam. His role at the Grand Mosque further expanded in 2016 when he served as Khateeb of Masjid Al-Haram during Ramadan, by the directive of King Salman. Throughout his years of service, he has also led Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers during Ramadan, often alongside renowned Imams, including Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais.
He is widely loved for his gentle voice, emotional delivery, and flawless command of Tajweed. His recitation style is known for its calm rhythm, clarity, and spiritual depth, offering Muslims around the world a sense of peace, focus, and closeness to Allah. Many listeners turn to his recitation during moments of reflection, prayer, and worship, especially in Ramadan. His recordings of the Quran have been widely published and shared across international platforms, becoming a source of comfort and guidance for millions.
