Noreen Muhammad Siddiq was a beloved Quran reciter and imam from Sudan, known worldwide for his deeply emotional and heart-touching recitations. He was born in 1982 in Umm Dam, a town in North Kordofan, Sudan, and grew up in a religious household that nurtured his love for the Quran. He began memorizing the Quran at the age of 17, mastering the qira’at (recitation styles) of Al-Douri ‘an Abi ‘Amr and Hafs. His Quranic education started in 1996 under the Khalawi sheikhs in the Bara district and continued at the Khorsi Institute, where he became a student of the well-known scholar Sheikh Makki.

Over the next 20 years, he studied Islam deeply under several scholars and later graduated from the Islamic Holy Quran University in Sudan. His remarkable Tajweed and soulful voice gained popularity across social media, making his recitations widely loved in the Muslim world.

He served as an imam in some of Khartoum’s most prominent mosques, including Khartoum Grand Mosque, Al-Nour Mosque and Sayeda Sanhori Mosque. He also represented Sudan in various international Quran competitions, securing high positions in Malaysia, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Libya. In Saudi Arabia, he won second place at the King Abdulaziz International Quran Competition.

Noreen Muhammad Siddiq is recognized alongside other well-known Quran reciters such as Abdul-Rashid Sufi, Muhammad Sulaiman Patel, Afif Taj, Al-Zain Mohamed Ahmed, Ziyaad Patel, and Abdullahi Abba Zaria, all known for their unique recitation styles and commitment to the Quran.

Sadly, He passed away in a tragic car accident on 7 November 2020 at the age of 38, along with three other Quran reciters. His death was mourned by millions of Muslims around the world. Today, his legacy lives on through his beautiful recitations, which continue to inspire and comfort hearts.
