Laayoun El Kouchi is a renowned Quran reciter, born in Safi, Morocco, in 1967. He is one of the most famous reciters of the Quran in the Warsh narration from Nafi’. By the age of nine, he had memorized the entire Quran. He pursued a bachelor’s degree in literature but chose to dedicate his life to the Quran. He has won several interational Quran competitions in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia. He began leading prayers as an imam in Safi and Casablanca before working in the United States at the Islamic Center in New York and later in Belgium at Al Khalil Mosque in Brussels. Now back in Morocco, he serves as the imam of Al Andalus Mosque in Casablanca. He is the first Moroccan to record the entire Quran in Warsh narration, reviewed by over 20 scholars from Al Azhar in Egypt over three years.
