Abdul Rashid Ali Sufi is a renowned Somali Quran reciter, born in 1962. He is the son of Ali Abdul Rahmane Sufi, a respected scholar who significantly contributed to Quran recitation in Somalia. His father built numerous schools and founded the Al-Sheikh Ali Sufi Mosque in Mogadishu, where he memorized the Quran by the age of ten. Under his father’s guidance, he mastered different recitations, Qur’anic interpretation, and Islamic jurisprudence. In 1981, Abdul Rashid Ali Sufi traveled to Egypt to study at the Quran Recitations Institute, where he earned a high-level certification in the ten recitations. He also studied at Al-Azhar Mosque and was awarded two degrees in the ten recitations by the late Sheikh Mohamed Ibn Ismail Al Hamdani. After returning to Somalia, he taught Quranic sciences and led prayers at his father’s mosque. Later, he traveled to various Arab countries, including Egypt and Qatar, where he became the imam and preacher at Anas Ibn Malik Mosque in Doha.
