AbdelHamid Hssain was a renowned Moroccan Quran reciter and scholar, born in 1932 in Rabat. He was known for his expertise in Tajweed, particularly using the Warsh A’n Nafi’ recitation style, which is widely practiced in Morocco. From an early age, he showed great dedication to learning the Quran, leading his father to enroll him in a Quranic school. He played a significant role in promoting Quranic education in Morocco. He worked as a supervisor on Arabic programs for the Moroccan national radio and collaborated with Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary to develop the famous radio program “How Do We Read the Quran?” This program greatly influenced Moroccan listeners by teaching Tajweed rules. His contributions extended beyond broadcasting; he established Morocco’s first association for Quran reciters, known as Moujawidin, bringing together prominent scholars and sheikhs. Later, he founded Dar Al Quran, a center dedicated to Quranic studies. In recognition of his dedication, King Hassan II of Morocco appointed him as the first Quran reciter (Moujawid) for the official Ramadan Quran series in 1402 Hijri (1982). He remained in this role until his passing on December 21, 1992. His Quranic recitations remain widely respected. His recordings include several Surahs, such as Surah Yaseen, Nooh, Al-Jinn, Al-Muzzammil, Al-Muddathir, and Al-Insan, all recited in the Warsh A’n Nafi’ style.
