Abdul Rahman Ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Sudais is one of the most famous Quran reciters in the world. He was born in 1961 in the city of Qassim, Saudi Arabia, and comes from the respected Anza tribe. He is best known as the Chief Imam and Khateeb of Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah, and also serves as the President of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.
He memorized the Holy Quran at the young age of 12. He completed his early education at Al Muthana Bin Harith Elementary School and graduated with honors in 1979. He went on to earn a degree in Sharia from King Saud University in 1983, a Master’s degree from Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in 1987, and a Ph.D. in Islamic Sharia from Umm al-Qura University in 1995. He also teaches Sharia at Umm al-Qura University.
Sheikh Al-Sudais is known for his deep, emotional voice and precise Tajweed in Quran recitation, similar to other renowned reciters such as Mishary Rashid Alafasy, Saad Al Ghamidi, Maher Al Mueaqly, Saud Al-Shuraim, Yasser Al-Dosari, Anas Mohammad, and Abbadi Houssem Eddine. His voice is loved by millions of Muslims around the world and is often heard in homes, mosques, and Islamic gatherings.
In 2016, King Salman appointed him to deliver the Hajj Khutbah, one of the most honored roles in the Muslim world. In 2005, he was awarded the Islamic Personality of the Year by the Dubai International Holy Quran Award. Today, he continues to lead prayers, deliver sermons, and oversee the major expansions of the Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah, making him a key figure in the spiritual life of the Islamic world.
