Abdul-Rashid Sufi is a renowned Somali Qur’an reciter born in 1964. His father, Sheikh Ali Abdulrahman Sufi, was a respected preacher who contributed significantly to Quranic education in Somalia. His father built schools, established Quran institutes, and founded Al-Sheikh Ali Sufi Mosque in Mogadishu, where Abdul-Rashid memorized the Quran by age 10. Guided by his father, he mastered Tajweed and the seven Quranic recitations through the Shatibiyyah method. In 1981, he traveled to Egypt to study at the Qur’an Recitations Institute and Al-Azhar Mosque, earning advanced certifications in the ten recitations. Upon returning to Somalia, he began teaching and leading prayers at his father’s mosque. He later toured Arab countries, teaching Quranic sciences in Egypt and Qatar. He served as imam and preacher at Anas Ibn Malik Mosque in Doha, sharing his expertise and inspiring Muslims worldwide with his melodious recitation.
