Abdullah Al-Johany is a well-known Quran reciter and one of the leading Imams of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. He was born on January 13, 1976, in Medina, Saudi Arabia, into a religious family that supported his love for the Quran from a young age. He memorized the entire Quran early in life and showed a deep passion for Islamic studies.

With strong family encouragement, he pursued Islamic education and earned a bachelor’s degree from the Islamic University of Madinah, followed by a PhD in Quranic Sciences from Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah. At the age of sixteen, he won first place in an international Quran recitation competition held in Makkah, proving his talent and dedication.

Before becoming an Imam in Masjid al-Haram, Sheikh Al-Johany led prayers at several important mosques, including Masjid Quba, Masjid Qiblatain, Masjid Al-Jinn, and Masjid An-Nabawi in Madinah. In 2007, he was appointed as a permanent Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, and since 2008, he has been leading Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan, drawing huge crowds who come to hear his moving and powerful voice. He is known for his strong, clear voice, excellent Tajweed, and deep spiritual tone. He has many audio and video recordings that are widely shared and loved by Muslims around the world.

He is also part of a wider circle of respected Quran reciters known for their powerful delivery and clear Tajweed, such as Mahmood Saad Darwish, Mohamed Abdel Samia Raslan, Bassel Abdul Rahman Raoui, Salem Al Ruwaili, Khalid Al Jalil, Yasser Abdullah Al Masri, Abdullah Fahmi, Mohammed Al-Lohaidan and Mohammad Nezar Marwan—each offering a distinct voice and recitation style appreciated by listeners around the world.
