Abdullah Ali Jabir also known as Ali Ibn Abdullah Ibn Ali Jaber, was a respected Saudi Arabian Quran reciter, scholar, and Imam of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. He was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 1953 (1373 AH). At the age of five, he moved with his family to Madinah, where he memorized the entire Quran by the age of 15. His father, a businessman, encouraged him to pursue Islamic knowledge, and he dedicated himself to both Quranic studies and Sharia.
He graduated from the Faculty of Sharia at the Islamic University of Madinah and later joined the High Institute of Magistracy in Riyadh, where he earned his Master’s degree in Islamic Jurisprudence. His thesis focused on Abdullah Ibn Umar’s Fiqh and its influence on the Madinah School. In 1407 AH, he completed his PhD in Fiqh and went on to teach at King Abdul Aziz University.
His exceptional voice, emotional tone, and mastery of Tajweed made him one of the most beloved reciters of his era. He served as Imam in various mosques across Saudi Arabia before being appointed Imam of the private mosque of King Khalid Ibn Abdul Aziz. In 1981 (1401 AH), a royal decree appointed him as an Imam of Masjid al-Haram. Although he briefly stepped down in 1983 (1403 AH), he returned in 1986 (1406 AH) to lead Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan, where millions of Muslims listened to his heartfelt recitations. His recordings spread worldwide, inspiring believers across generations.
Abdullah Ali Jaber holds a special place among the world’s most respected Quran reciters, remembered for his soulful and heartfelt style. Many other voices continue to inspire the Muslim ummah, including Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, Amer Hammam, Mohamed Al Barak, Maher Al Mueaqly, Wael Radwan Qureshi, Abdullah Ibn Ali Basfar, Muhammad Ayub Haram, Zaynab Talha, Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Abdul Aziz Al Karaani, and Waleed Naehi.
