Abdullah Ibn Ali Basfar is a famous Quran reciter, imam, and scholar from Saudi Arabia. He was born in Jeddah in 1381 Hijrah (1961 CE) and showed a deep love for the Quran from an early age. By his youth, he had memorized the Holy Quran and soon became recognized for his beautiful voice and precise Tajweed. His recitations first gained wide attention during the Ramadan Quran nights in Jeddah, where his melodious style moved many listeners.
He graduated from King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah in 1406 Hijrah with a degree in Islamic Studies. He later earned a Master’s in Fiqh and Usool from Umm al-Qura University in 1412 Hijrah and completed his PhD in Fiqh in 1419 Hijrah. His dedication to both scholarship and Quranic recitation earned him respect across the Muslim world.
Over the years, he served as the imam of Masjid Mansour Al Shaabi in Jeddah, became a member of the Scholar Association at King Abdulaziz University, and worked as General Secretary of the International League of Quran Studies and Learning. He also served as the President of the International Organization for Quran Memorization, affiliated with the Muslim World League. His role in organizing international Quran competitions and conferences helped promote the memorization and recitation of the Quran globally.
In addition to his work as an imam and scholar, he is also a writer. His books include Meditations on Surah Al-Fatihah, Reflections on Surah Al-Baqarah, A Journey with Surah Yusuf, Purification of the Soul, and Ramadan: Virtues and Facts. He also addressed important issues like poverty, extremism, and community awareness through his lectures and writings.
