Dr. Ahmed Essa Al Masarawi is a highly respected Quran scholar and reciter from Egypt. Born on March 1, 1953, in Dindit, Egypt, he memorized the entire Quran by the age of 11 under Sheikh Abdul Hamid Hajjaj. His deep connection with the Quran continued as he studied at Al Azhar University, where he earned his degree in Qiraa-aat, followed by master’s degrees in both Qiraa-aat and Hadith. In 1992, he completed his PhD in Hadith from the same university. He holds Sanad and Ijazah in all ten Qiraa-aat, both the minor and major readings, through the Shaatibiyyah, Durrah, and Tayyibah texts. His teachers include notable scholars like Sheikh Abdul Hakim Abdul Lateef and Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Hamid Abdullah. He served as the Grand Sheikh of Quraa in Egypt and led the board responsible for approving printed and audio copies of the Quran. From 1976 to 1993, he taught at Al Azhar Institute and later became a professor in the same department. Now based in Qatar, Dr. Al Masarawi leads several Quranic academies and serves as a visiting professor at Sultan Abdul Hamid University in Malaysia. He also advises many international universities on Quranic education. Known for his leadership in Quranic competitions, he often acts as the head judge and has conducted many global workshops. He has written several valuable books in Islamic sciences, with his most well-known work focusing on the differences among the ten Quraa.
