Ali Abdur Rahman Al-Huthaify is a famous Quran reciter and Imam from Saudi Arabia, born in 1947 (1366 AH) in Al-Awamir. He grew up in a religious family, his father, Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Hudaify, was a respected scholar and Imam in the Saudi Arabian Army. From a young age, he was guided towards Islamic studies and memorized the Holy Quran under Sheikh Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Hodaifi.
He studied at the Salafi School in Baljurashi and later at the Scientific Institute, where he graduated in 1968. He then joined the Sharia Faculty in Riyadh and excelled in Islamic knowledge. After graduation, he worked as a teacher at the Scientific Institute of Baljurashi, teaching subjects such as Tafsir, Tawhid, Fiqh, and Arabic grammar, while also leading prayers at the city’s main mosque. In 1972, he graduated in Law from Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University. He later completed his Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Islamic Law at Al-Azhar University in Egypt (1975). His deep knowledge of Islamic sciences made him one of the most respected scholars and reciters of his time.
He was appointed Imam of the Quba Mosque in Madinah in 1979 and soon after was honored with the position of Chief Imam of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet’s Mosque). In Ramadan of 1981, he also briefly served as Imam of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, before returning to lead at the Prophet’s Mosque, where he served for many years with dedication.
Ali Abdur-Rahman Al-Huthaify is one of many voices that continue to inspire Muslims around the world.
