Bandar Baleela, also known as Bandar bin Abdulaziz Baleela, was born in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, in 1975 (1395 AH). He is one of the most respected Qur’an reciters and currently serves as an Imam of Masjid al-Haram, the holiest mosque in Islam. From a young age, he showed a deep love for the Qur’an and Islamic knowledge. He studied Islamic Shari’a at Umm al-Qura University in Makkah, where he earned his degree in Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) in 2001. He continued his studies and received a Master’s degree in Fiqh in 2002, and later, in 2008, he obtained his Ph.D. in Islamic Jurisprudence. His dedication to learning established him as one of the most knowledgeable scholars of Shari’a in Saudi Arabia.
Alongside his studies, he taught Fiqh at the Institute of Al-Haram Al-Makki and later became a professor at Taif University. Before his appointment at Masjid al-Haram, he served as Imam of Al Amira Nouf Mosque in Makkah’s Aziziyah district, where many people admired his voice and recitation style.
He first led Taraweeh prayers in Masjid al-Haram during Ramadan in 2013 (1434 AH) on a temporary basis. His recitation was so moving and powerful that he was later appointed permanently as an Imam of Masjid al-Haram in October 2013. In 2016, by a Royal Decree of King Salman, he was further honored with leading the Istisqa (Rain) Prayer.
Today, he continues to lead prayers at Masjid al-Haram, guiding millions of worshippers with his soulful voice. He is especially known for his heart touching recitation that combines mastery of Tajweed with a unique emotional depth, bringing peace and inspiration to listeners.
Through his voice, Bandar Baleela connects millions of Muslims to the words of Allah with deep emotion and clarity.
