Ibrahim Al Akhdar, born in 1945 in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, is a famous Quran reciter, teacher, and imam. His full name is Ibrahim Ibn Al Akhdar Al Qayim, and he is admired across the Muslim world for his heartfelt recitation and service to the Quran. From a young age, he memorized the Quran and studied under great scholars such as Sheikh Omar Al Haydari, Sheikh Hassan Ibrahim Al Chair, Sheikh Amir Bin Sayed Othman, and Sheikh Ahmed Bin Abdulaziz Al Zayat. He not only mastered Tajweed and recitation but also studied Aqeedah, Fiqh, and Arabic language.
He worked as a teacher at Abi Bin Kaab School in Madinah and later served as an imam in Jeddah. He also taught at the Faculty of Quran and the Faculty of Dawah at the Islamic University of Madinah, helping generations of students in Quran and Islamic sciences.
In 1986, he was appointed as one of the imams of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, a role he held for nine years, leading prayers with his melodious and powerful voice. During his career, he has also supported Quran memorization programs and contributed to several Islamic organizations, including the Charitable Association of Social Services and the National and International Jury of the Holy Quran Competition.
The legacy of Sheikh Ibrahim Al Akhdar stands within a wider community of respected reciters, including Ali Abdur-Rahman AL-Huthaify, Abdul Bari Ath Thobaity, Muhammad Ayyub, Abdullah Al-Johany, Ibrahim AL Asiri, Maher Al Mueaqly, Ahmed Ibn Ali Al-Ajmy, Idrees Abkar, and Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais. Together, their voices form a rich heritage of Quranic recitation that continues to inspire believers today.
