Idrees Abkar is a famous Quran reciter from Saudi Arabia, known for his beautiful voice and heartfelt recitations. He was born in Jeddah in 1975 and began learning the Quran at the young age of eight at Masjid-ut-Tawheed. By the age of 13, he had already joined Hifz groups at Masjid Al-Fatini, showing his deep dedication and love for the Quran.
He memorized the entire Quran in just four years, thanks to his strong memory and passion for recitation. He studied under well-known scholars such as Sheikh Yusuf Al-Ahmadi, Abdelwahab Al-Ahmadi, Awda Addahri, Abdullah Al-Qarni, Hadi Said, and Mohammed Rafii, who helped shape his unique recitation style.
Over the years, Idrees Abkar has led prayers in many mosques, including Masjid Al-Fatima, Masjid Ibn Taymiyyah, Masjid Al-Qahtani, Masjid Assad Ibn Al Hadeer, and Masjid Seliem Al Araby. His gentle personality, deep Islamic knowledge, and emotional recitation style have made him loved by people across the globe. He has also led Taraweeh prayers in several countries such as Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, and others in Africa and Asia. On November 23, 2013, he was appointed as the official Imam of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, UAE, a role he continues to serve with honor.
He is also recognized among a wider group of well-known Quran reciters who bring a unique spiritual depth to their recitations, including Muammar Zainal Asyikini, Muhammad Zarami,Ibrahim AL Asiri, Mahmood Hussein Mansour, Jamaan Al Osaimi, Tamim Al-Rimi, Mohammed Jibreel, Majid Al-Zamil, and Mohammed Al-Ghazali—each known for their own distinct voice and commitment to the Quran.
