Laayoun El Kouchi is a well-known Moroccan Qur’an reciter and imam, admired for his soulful voice and unique style. He was born in Safi, Morocco, in 1967 and memorized the entire Qur’an by the age of nine with the guidance of a close relative. His beautiful voice made him stand out among his classmates, and he was often invited to recite at important events.

He studied literature at university but chose to dedicate his life to the Qur’an. He began leading prayers as an imam at the age of 18 in Safi and Casablanca. Later, he served as an imam in the United States at the Islamic Center in New York and in Belgium at Al Khalil Mosque in Brussels. Eventually, he returned to Morocco, where he now serves as the imam of Al Andalus Mosque in Casablanca.

He is especially known for reciting the Qur’an in the Warsh narration from Nafi’, a traditional Moroccan style. He also became the first Moroccan reciter to record the entire Qur’an in Warsh narration, a project reviewed and approved by over 20 scholars from Al Azhar University in Egypt over three years.

While Sheikh Laayoun El Kouchi is deeply admired for his heartfelt recitation, many other voices also continue to inspire listeners around the world. Throughout his career, he has participated in many international Qur’an competitions in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia, winning prizes and recognition for his outstanding recitation.
