Maher Al Mueaqly is one of the most respected and well-known Quran reciters in the world today. He was born in 1969 in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, the blessed city of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. His full name is Maher Ibn Hamd Ibn Mueaql Al Mueaqly Al Baloui. Before dedicating himself fully to Islamic studies, he studied mathematics and worked as a teacher in Makkah. He also served as a student advisor and later as an educational consultant to Prince Abdul Majid. Alongside his teaching career, he developed a deep passion for Islamic knowledge, earning a Master’s degree in Hanbali Fiqh and later completing a Ph.D. in Shafi’i Fiqh from Umm Al Qura University.

His journey as a Qur’an reciter began by leading prayers in several mosques, including Al-Sa’adi Mosque in Makkah. His beautiful and emotional voice quickly gained attention, and in 2006 and 2007, he was invited to lead prayers in Masjid Al-Nabawi in Madinah. In 2007, he was given the great honor of becoming a permanent Imam of Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah, one of the holiest places in Islam. In 2008, he led the Taraweeh prayers alongside the well-known reciter Abdul Rahman Al Sudais and other great imams such as Mishary Rashid Alafasy and Saud Al-Shuraim.

Sheikh Maher has also served as Khateeb (Friday sermon speaker) of Masjid Al-Haram during Ramadan 2016 by order of King Salman. He has led prayers with other respected imams like Abdullah Awad Al Johany and Yasser Al-Dosari. In addition, his style and clarity are often admired by reciters from different regions, including Abdullahi Abba Zaria and Abdullah AL Munsalih, who share a similar dedication to perfect Tajweed.
