Muhammad al-Mehysni (also known as Sheikh Mohamed Al Mohisni) is a respected Quran reciter, imam, and Islamic preacher from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He was born in 1965 in the region of Ben Salman Al Mohisni. He memorized the entire Holy Quran by the age of 12, guided by his father and his teacher, Sheikh Alam-Eddine. Known for his emotional and heartfelt recitation style, he often moves listeners to tears through his deep reverence and unique repetition of Quranic verses. He recites in the Hafs ‘an Asim narration, and his recordings are widely available online and in digital Quran archives.
At just 14 years old, he began leading prayers in Riyadh, and by 1979, he became the Imam of Al-Abbas Mosque. In 1982, he moved to Buraidah to pursue Islamic studies and support his family’s business. He taught Quran and Tajweed in several mosques, including Al-Fakhria Mosque.
In 1989, he was appointed as head of the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice at the As-Safra branch in Buraidah. Since 2006, he has served as the Imam of Al-Qatari Mosque in Makkah.
Muhammad al-Mehysni is part of a generation of distinguished Quran reciters who have had a lasting impact on listeners. Other notable names include Hani Ar Rifai, Khalid Al-Qahtani, Mustafa Al Lahouni, Ali Hajjaj Al Souissi, Adel Rayane, Fadi Saoud Al Jabbour, Mahmoud Moujahid, Eid Hassan Abu Aachra, and Nadeem Dawood—each known for their distinct voices and heartfelt connection to the Quran.
He is considered one of the first Quran reciters to have his voice professionally recorded, withwith early recordings dating back to 1977, including a famous recitation of Surah At-Tawbah. His Tarawih prayers are now streamed online during Ramadan, and many of his Friday sermons (khutbahs) and lectures are available on Islamic audio platforms. Although he was banned from delivering khutbahs in 1993 due to political circumstances, his voice and message continue to reach and inspire audiences worldwide.
