Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi (January 1, 1920 – June 20, 1969) was one of the most famous and beloved Quran reciters of the 20th century. Born in the village of Munsha’a in Sohag Governorate, Upper Egypt, he belonged to a respected family of Quran reciters. His father, Sheikh Siddiq al-Minshawi, was a renowned reciter, and his brother, Sheikh Mahmoud al-Minshawi, also became a well-known Qari. From a very young age, he showed great talent in memorizing and reciting the Quran. By the age of 8, he had completed the memorization of the entire Quran. He studied Tajweed under the guidance of Sheikh Ibrahim As-Su’udi, and he was also a student of the great reciter Sheikh Mohammed Salamah, who influenced his style deeply. He is often mentioned alongside other legendary reciters of his generation, such as Sheikh Kamil Yusuf al-Bahtimi.
Throughout his life, he traveled to many countries, including Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Palestine (Al-Aqsa Mosque), and Indonesia, spreading the message of the Quran through his soulful recitations. He also recorded a complete Quran which remains one of the most listened-to collections worldwide.
On a personal note, he was married twice. From his first wife, he had four sons and two daughters, and from his second wife, five sons and four daughters.
He passed away on June 20, 1969 (5 Rabi’ al-Thani 1389 AH) at the age of 49. Despite his short life, his legacy continues to inspire Muslims around the world. His recordings of Surahs like Surah Yaseen, Surah Rahman, and Surah Yusuf are still cherished for their unmatched emotional and spiritual impact.
