Surah Yaseen mp3 by Mustafa Ismail

Mustafa Ismail (June 17, 1905 – December 26, 1978) was one of Egypt’s most iconic and influential Quran reciters. He was born in the village of Mit Ghazal, near Tanta in the Gharbia Governorate of Egypt. At the young age of 12, he completed the memorization of the Holy Quran in his hometown. He later joined the famous Al-Ahmadi Mosque in Tanta to study Quran sciences and master Tajweed and the art of Qira’at. He also studied at Al-Azhar Institute in Tanta from the age of 15, where he deepened his knowledge of Quranic recitation.

Inspired by great reciters like Sheikh Muhammad Rif’at and Sheikh Abd al-Fattah al-Sha’sha’i, he developed his own emotional and powerful style. His melodious tone and precise Tajweed earned him recognition across Egypt and the Arab world.

In 1944, he became the official reciter for King Farouk and was later appointed as the official reciter of Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo. This made him the first reciter to hold such a prestigious position in Egypt. His reputation quickly spread throughout the Muslim world, and his recordings continue to be loved to this day. Today, his impact is remembered alongside many other respected Quran reciters such as Ismail Annuri, Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Ismail Londt, Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi, Al-Hosary with Children, Abdul Basit, Mahmood Ali Al Banna, and Mufti Ismail Menk—each of whom has contributed uniquely to the art and tradition of Quranic recitation.
