Surah Yaseen mp3 by Mustafa Ismail
Mustafa Ismail (1905–1978) is regarded as one of the greatest Quran reciters of the 20th century, known for his deep mastery of recitation, remarkable vocal control, and emotional delivery. Born on 17 June 1905, in the village of Mit Ghazal near Tanta in Egypt, he showed exceptional talent from a young age and completed the memorization of the Quran at the age of twelve under the guidance of local teachers who quickly recognized his rare ability.
He continued his studies at Al-Ahmadi Institute in Tanta, where he specialized in the sciences of Qira’a, Tajweed, Tafsir, and Quranic rhythm. His exceptional voice gained recognition from leading scholars, including Sheikh Muhammad Rif’at, who predicted for him a distinguished future in the world of tilawah. Soon, his name spread beyond Al-Gharbiya until his powerful and refined recitation reached Cairo.
His breakthrough came in 1944, when he was given the honor to recite at an official royal event in place of Sheikh Abd al-Fattah al-Sha’sha’i. His recitation impressed King Farouk, who appointed him the official reciter of the Egyptian Royal Court. Through this appointment, he rose to national and international fame, becoming a celebrated figure not only in Egypt but throughout the Arab and Muslim world.
Following the end of the monarchy, he continued his service to the Quran with dignity and humility. He was appointed as the official reciter of Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo, where he remained a prominent voice until his death. His recitation style was admired for its harmony, depth, and emotional strength, and his ability to move through different maqamat while maintaining perfect Tajweed set him apart from others.
Throughout his career, he was invited to recite across many Muslim countries, especially during Ramadan and major Islamic gatherings. His impact on the world of Quranic recitation remains profound, standing alongside other legendary voices such as Muhammad Siddiq AL-Minshawi, Muhammad Anwar Shahat, Tareq Mohammad, Ahmed Khalil Shaheen, Ahmed Ragab, Yasser Al-Dosari, Abdul Basit ‘Abd us-Samad, Abdul Rahman Al Ossi, and Muhammad Al-Aalim Al-Dokali, reciters who have shaped modern tilawah and inspired generations.
He passed away on Friday, 12 December 1978, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Quranic history. His voice remains preserved in recordings that reflect not only technical mastery but sincere devotion to the Book of Allah.
