Abdul Basit Abdul Samad was one of the most famous Quran reciters in the world. He was born in 1927 in a small village called Armant in Egypt. From a young age, he showed great love for the Quran. He memorized the entire Quran by the age of 10 and mastered all ten styles of recitation by the age of 14. He was deeply inspired by the legendary reciter Muhammad Rifat. His unique voice, deep spirituality, and strong command of Tajweed made his recitation stand out. He first gained attention when he led the Tarawih prayers during Ramadan at just 14 years old. In 1951, he joined Egypt’s National Radio Station, where his first recitation of Surah Fatir touched many hearts. By 1952, he was appointed as the official reciter of Al-Imam Al-Shafi’i Mosque, and later in 1985, he became the reciter for Al-Imam Al-Hussein Mosque.

He known as the “Golden Throat” and the “Voice of Mecca,” His recitations became famous worldwide. His recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha is especially loved for its beauty and emotion. He won three international Quran recitation competitions in the 1970s and became the first president of the Egyptian Reciters’ Union. He was also the first reciter to help popularize and commercialize Quran recordings. He recited at important venues around the world, including Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan. His powerful and emotional voice touched the hearts of both Muslims and non-Muslims across the globe, similar to the style of Mufti Ismail Menk, Muhammad Siddiq AL-Minshawi , and Mustafa Ismail, Mahmood Ali Al Banna, Al-Hosary with Children, Ismail Londt, Ismail Annuri, who also have a deep spiritual connection in their recitations.

Abdul Basit passed away on November 30, 1988, at the age of 61 due to complications from diabetes and liver disease.
