Abdul Basit Abdul Samad (1927–1988) was born in Armant, Egypt, and is one of the most famous Quran reciters in the world. He memorized the entire Quran by the age of 10. Inspired by Sheikh Muhammad Rifat, he developed a unique and melodious tone that made his recitations captivating. At just 14 years old, he led Tarawih prayers during Ramadan, impressing worshippers with his voice. He became the first president of the Reciters’ Union in Egypt and won three international Qirat competitions in the 1970s.
