Salah Al Hashem is a well-known Quran reciter from Kuwait, born in 1980. He began memorizing the Quran at an early age and completed the memorization by the age of 12. His journey in Quranic recitation was guided by respected teachers like Sheikh Nasser Al-Othman, Sheikh Adnan Abdul Qadir, and Sheikh Khamis bin Abdel Azim, who gave him his Ijazah (license) in Quran recitation. To master Tajweed, he took inspiration from legendary Egyptian reciters such as Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Mahmood Ali Al Banna, and Muhammad Siddiq AL-Minshawi. Their influence helped him develop a strong and emotional recitation style that many admire today.
He started leading prayers as an Imam in various mosques, most notably in the Grand Mosque of Kuwait from 2002 to 2005. He also led Tarawih and Qiyam prayers at Maryam Al Qutami Mosque in the Shuwaikh area. In addition to being a reciter, he has contributed to the Islamic community through technology. He launched the “Calendar of Hashem” – a unique mobile app known as the first acoustic Islamic calendar. It became popular in both Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, especially for its audio-based religious reminders.
He also worked with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Education as a teacher, further extending his impact on religious education. Beyond Quran recitation, he is a talented nasheed artist. He has released several albums, including “I Am the Poor“, “I Came to You“and “Labbaik“. He has also completed a full Quran recording, offering various recitation styles that follow traditional Tajweed rules.
